NAMI South Suburbs of Chicago is a non-profit, self help organization whose goal is to improve the quality of life for individuals with mental illness and their families.

It is an affiliate of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and NAMI Illinois organizations.

Our members believe that continuing research into the causes of serious and prolonged neurobiological illnesses, improved treatment methods and service systems, is essential.

We welcome all who have felt alone because of serious mental illness within the family.  We hope you will join us in the rapidly growing network of people who are dedicated to the welfare of persons with mental illness and their families.

The Commission on Goverment Forecasting and Accountability has scheduled a hearing on the closure of Tinley Park Mental Health Center for March 12, 2012 at 4:30 p.m in Frankfort at the Lincolnway East High School. It is important that we continue to have a voice in this planning process. Currently the state's plan is to close TPMHC with less that half of the current budget of $10million to be reinvested in the community. At this hearing we expect to hear from the state details of DHS' plan to replace the services being lost by this closure. As of today's date there are no hospitals in the service area who are willing to contract with the state to take patients that would otherwise go to TPMHC. It is important that we attend the hearing to continue to protest this injustice. Please come to the hearing and submit a tetimony slip insisting that the full $20million be reinvested in the community to provide replacement services before TPMHC is closed.

Please take a few minutes and tour our site to learn more about us and about mental illness.
