In Our Own Voice

“The presenters themselves are a living testimony of mental illness and successes, hopes and dreams.” - response to In Our Own Voice

NAMI In Our Own Voice is a free presentation designed to shatter negative stereotypes against people with mental illness.  It is a unique presentation in which two trained speakers share their compelling personal stories of living with mental health challenges and achieving recovery.  The presentation also features a DVD with eight other individuals from diverse backgrounds sharing the impact of and recovery from mental health challenges.

Families in Crisis

This workshop is led by a trained family member and will help crisis workers work more effectively with family members dealing with the trauma of mental illness. The workshop will provide specific and practical strategies to extract useful collateral information while de-escalating a crisis situation.

Virtual Voices

Virtual Voices is an experiential workshop that simulates auditory hallucinations that a person with a mental illness may experience.  Participants listen to a 45-minute recording while visiting 5 stations where they must complete various tasks while "hearing voices." Briefing and de-briefing discussions allow the audience to contextualize their experience and apply it to their interactions with persons with psychiatric disabilities.

Virtual Voices is a community education workshop and professional development tool that is beneficial to community and faith based organizations, students, healthcare providers, and law enforcement officials.

For more information and to schedule a Families in Crisis workshop or Virtual Voices workshop, please contact Program and Services Director, Trina Brooks.
