Education Programs

New Family-to-Family Classes offered by NAMI-Douglas County will begin on Sunday, March 9th and continue through May 25th, 2014 from 3:00 to 5:30 pm in Lawrence, Kansas. [The original starting date of March 2nd had to be postponed due to inclement weather]. Classes will be held in Conference Room "A" on the lower level conference room at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, 325 Maine Street, in Lawrence, Kansas. The educational program is a twelve-week class for caregivers and family members of adults with serious mental illness. There is no charge for the class but those wishing to take the class need to complete an application. To request an application for the class or for more information, please contact Robin Wood at or call 1-800-539-2660.

NAMI offers various education programs.  Classes are coordinated through the state office and taught by trained NAMI members who also have personal experience with the subject matter.  Ask a NAMI Douglas County affiliate member to find out more about these programs, or contact the NAMI Kansas office for the most up-to-date information on courses being offered in our area.  Classes are free and open to the public, but because there are often waiting lists, enrollment requires that participants make a commitment to attend the full course.

* NAMI Recovery and Hope Network (RAHN) is another Lawrence-based NAMI affiliate. It was established in 2004 as a Consumer Run Organization, whereas NAMI Douglas County is a more traditionally structured affiliate.  Our two organizations have different membership activities, but we partner on many projects of mutual interest.
