2015 NAMIWalks NORTHWEST

Thanks so much to everyone for making the 13th annual NAMIWalks Northwest, presented by Providence Health & Services, our biggest yet! More than 5,000 people showed up to raised funds and awareness and make a statement that mental health matters!

We are still counting money, but stay tuned for updates! Help us reach our $225,000 goal! We are accepting walk donations online and via snail mail until July 15. Please send check donations to NAMIWalks Northwest, 4701 SE 24th Ave., Suite E, Portland, OR, 97202, and include a note indicating which team and affiliate you are supporting. You are helping us make a difference for people living with mental illness, as well as families and loved ones.

Mental Health First Aid

NAMI Oregon, with generous support from Providence Health and Services, will be holding an Adult Mental Health First Aid class August 10th and 11th 9 am to 1 pm at Providence Portland Medical Center. The class is free and includes a printed textbook, but registration is required. To register, download and complete the registration form and return it to Peter Link, NAMI Oregon Education Programs Manager, via email (pete@namior.org), fax (503-230-2751), or US mail (NAMI Oregon, 4701 SE 24th Ave., Suite E, Portland, OR 97202). Space is limited so register ASAP.

Annual Conference - Save the date!

NAMI Oregon's annual conference will be held on Saturday, November 14, at the Village Green Resort in Cottage Grove.  We are currently choosing workshop topics and need your feedback.  Please take two minutes to fill out this survey and let us know what you'd like to see at the conference.

Action Alert: Urge legislators to support our housing bill

Help us get more mental health housing built in Oregon! Our housing bill, House Bill 2825, would create a housing development incentive fund for new mental health housing around the state. The House Health Care Committee held a hearing for the bill on Friday, Feb. 20. Please contact the committee and urge members to support this important legislation, and contact your local legislators and ask for their support of HB 2825 as well. For more information about the bill, click here.

About NAMI Oregon

The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Oregon (NAMI Oregon) is a statewide grassroots organization with more than 1,700 members in 14 affiliates; it is one of 50 state organizations that comprise the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Our mission is to improve the quality of life of individuals living with mental illness and their families and loved ones through education, support, and advocacy. Our statewide toll-free Helpline (800-343-6264) is answered by trained volunteers and staff who provide information and referrals to mental health resources.

See a list of our current education courses and support groups around Oregon.

NAMI Oregon's affiliates, which rely on the support of dedicated volunteers, are vital to providing programs and services locally to let you know you are not alone. NAMI Oregon also works to ensure that everyone affected by mental illness is represented wherever decisions are made. NAMI Oregon testifies before the state legislature, serves on state planning and advisory committees, actively partners with strategic coalitions, and participates in task forces and other policy forums.
