Childhood Anxiety
Wednesday, April 8th, 7-9pm

What is childhood anxiety and where should you go for help in providing care and treatment? Dr. Sarah Williams, a postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins Hospital and a specialist in anxiety disorders, will share useful information for parents. 

Dr. Williams coordinates the Baltimore site for the School-Based Treatment for Anxiety Research Study (STARS), which explores the applicability and effectiveness of providing cognitive-behavior therapy within a school setting.  She also provides outpatient psychotherapy to children and their families at Kennedy Krieger Institute.

Tourette's Disorder

Matt W. Specht, Ph.D, will discuss the historical progression of Tourette's disorder and related treatments as well the current best practices for the treatment of tics and co-occurring psychiatric symptoms.  

Dr. Specht is in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins. He focuses on neuropsychiatric disorders, namely Tourette's disorder and OCD. Dr. Specht's current research focuses on evaluating co-occurring disorders as moderators of treatment outcome as well as developing and evaluating clinical algorithms for combining available empirically supported treatments for clinically complex patients.
