What are Mental Health Conditions?

Mental health conditions may disrupt a persons thinking, feeling, mood, ability to relate to others, and daily functioning. The good news about mental health conditions is that wellness and healing are achievable!

What is NAMI of Central Suffolk?

We are a grassroots mental health organization dedicated to: promoting mental health and wellness; and to empower and equip people to live enriched, and self-directed lives through our many education, support, social, and advocacy programs.

Who is NAMI of Central Suffolk?

We are: people who live with mental health conditions, families, friends, and community members who support the mission. At the heart of NAMI of Central Suffolk's mission is our grassroots philosophy and the sharing of information with people living with mental health conditions, their families, friends, and the community. NAMI of Central Suffolk, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that provides support, education, and advocacy throughout the Suffolk County area for the community FREE of charge. NAMI of Central Suffolk is a 100% volunteer run organization so all donations go to further our mission. We uphold human and civil rights for all so that all people can participate freely in the opportunities of society. We value difference and promote cultural competence in all aspects of our work. We outreach to communities of color knowing there are health care disparities. NAMI of Central Suffolk believes in PERSON CENTERED TREATMENT and PERSONAL CHOICE. We believe in advocating for equal oportunity for all people. We focus on strengths, not weaknesses. We are wellness oriented, not illness oriented. We believe an individual comprises physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual components; therefore, an individual's path and plan to wellness needs to integrate all components. We believe in assisting people to be self empowered and self directed and believe that is how wellness and healing are fully achieved.

What does NAMI of Central Suffolk do?

NAMI of Central Suffolk, Inc., strives to offer hope, reform and health to our community through support, education, and advocacy efforts. We assist individuals to become self empowered and self directed.

Why Should I join NAMI of Central Suffolk?

When you join, you will belong to a network of people like yourself, individuals and families who understand the daily challenges people with mental health conditions face, and who are working to meet those challenges together. Your membership will ensure that life saving information, support and educational programs are available.
