NAMI DUBUQUE NEEDS YOUR HELP!!!!

NAMI Dubuque is in serious need of members who are passionate about NAMI and our mission and are willing to volunteer their time and talents. There are many opportunities available to suit any amount of time you are able to give. We want dedicated NAMI members like you to help us in meeting our potential as Dubuque’s Voice on Mental Illness. If you are interested in volunteering and would like to discuss how you can help with the time you have available, please speak with one of the board members at any of our meetings or call or email Diane Bucko at 563-580-8653 or dmbucko@gmail.com. There is no job too small to be of great help!

  • VOLUNTEERS TO STAFF BOOTHS AT COMMUNITY EVENTS. These are great opportunities for the community to become familiar with the NAMI name and what the organization does. These events give us the chance to distribute our informational literature/brochures on mental illness as well as information on the education courses we offer and our monthly meetings.
  • VOLUNTEERS TO TRAIN AS INSTRUCTORS FOR NAMI SIGNATURE EDUCATION COURSES AND FACILITATORS FOR SUPPORT GROUPS. We are in need of more instructors in order to continue to offer our education courses, hopefully even offering them more often. We are also in need facilitators for both Care & Share and NAMI Connection support groups. All training is provided by NAMI Iowa at various locations in the state as available. Training takes place on weekends and all expenses are paid by NAMI Dubuque.
  • VOLUNTEERS FOR IRIS DAYS. FRIDAY, MAY 1ST FROM 11 A.M. TO 7 P.M. AT WALMART. SATURDAY, MAY 2ND from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Eagles Country Market, HyVee-Dodge St, and Sam’s Club. FRIDAY, MAY 15TH from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at HyVee-South Locust and HyVee-Asbury. Iris Days volunteers distribute silk irises and mental health information in conjunction with Mental Health Awareness Month.
  • VOLUNTEERS TO STAFF OFFICE HOURS. The NAMI Dubuque office is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers answer the telephone, assist visitors to the office, and perform small office tasks. Our volunteer staff has dropped from the original 17 people to only 6 people currently, so we need your help!
  • VOLUNTEER TO JOIN THE NAMI DUBUQUE BOARD AS TREASURER IN JANUARY 2016. Our current Treasurer, Clete Gartner, has held this position for six years and has given notice that he will not be doing so in 2016. Clete has streamlined the expected duties for the Treasurer and is willing to mentor the incoming candidate. Clete deserves this much-needed reprieve and we would very much appreciate a person with some financial background stepping into this position.
  • VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE ON NAMI COMMITTEES. Committees are a great way to get involved and make a real difference with a small time commitment. No expertise is required and you’ll be working with a group of people breaking one large task into several small tasks. The following are some of the committees needing volunteers: FINANCE COMMITTEE, IRIS DAYS COMMITTEE, OFFICE COMMITTEE, VOLUNTEER COORDINATION COMMITTEE, SIGNATURE EDUCATION COMMITTEE, LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE, SOCIAL/HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE, FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE, GRANT-WRITING COMMITTEE, EVENTS COMMITTEE, NEWSLETTER COMMITTEE, PUBLICITY/MEDIA COMMITTEE, MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE, WEBSITE COMMITTEE, TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE, FAITHNET COMMITTEE, YOUTH COMMITTEE, SPEAKER/EDUCATION COMMITTEE.

Again, we are truly in need of volunteers in order to remain a voice for those in the Dubuque community with mental illness and their families. There is much work yet to be done. Please contact the NAMI office at 563-557-6264 or call or email Diane Bucko at 563-580-8653 or dmbucko@gmail.com.

“Large tasks become small when divided among many.”
