Research, Treatment and Celebration

The final day of the 2005 NAMI Convention was marked by a focus on research, treatment and celebration. The day began with the Research Plenary, "Research and Treatment for Depression Across the Lifespan", featuring representatives from the National Institute of Mental Health and the University of North Carolina Southwestern Medical Center.

Following the plenary, attendees moved into the Annual Business Meeting, where NAMI welcomed its newest board members and awarded outstanding leadership at the grassroots.

The afternoon brought the ever-popular Ask the Doctor sessions, for direct question-and-answer time with expert physicians on nine mental illnesses. Afterwards, convention participants had the tough decision of choosing from among nine different workshop sessions on such topics as Cognitive Enhancement Therapy, reaching out to diverse communities, and core strategies for integrated treatment.

In the evening, attendees boarded buses to the Alumni Center at the University of Texas for a fun final evening in the Lone Star State. The NAMI Fiesta was a fitting close to another excellent convention, in true Texas style.

Thanks to all the presenters, volunteers, staff, sponsors and attendees who made this year’s convention such a success. We look forward to seeing you in Washington, DC, for the 2006 NAMI Convention, June 28 through July 2.
