Voice Awards Nominations Needed

The Academy Awards® are behind us. Now it’s time to start making nominations for the “Voice Awards,” presented each year by thee U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)

The awards honor two groups. One consists of advocates living with mental illness who have led efforts to promote social inclusion and recovery, demonstrating personally that recovery is possible and real and making an impact in their communities. The other consists of leaders in the entertainment industry whose movie or television episodes incorporate respectful, accurate and dignified portrayals of people living with mental illness.

This year, SAMHSA is looking especially for nominations of athletes who have faced mental health or substance abuse challenges while continuing to compete in the public eye or advocates who have helped educate the public and empowered athletes to find paths toward recovery.

Nominations can be submitted to SAMHSA through their Voice Awards website.

The deadline for advocate nominations is Friday, April 13, 2012.

Entertainment nominations must be submitted by Friday, April 27, 2012 and must be for productions released after April 15, 2011.

Nominations are open to all and free. There is no limit to the number of nominations a person can make. Self-nominations are welcome.

SAMHSA will present the awards on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Paramount Studios in Hollywood, Calif.
