NAMI appreciates all that you are doing to help make a difference in the lives of the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. We are here for you and we want your event to be a success! Hopefully we can answer some of your questions here but if not, feel free to contact Taylor Rhodes for more information.

Why is this activity DIY and not a NAMI event?

NAMI hosts a few signature events throughout the year, including NAMIWalks and other activities. DIY events are intended to give you the support and resources you need to host your own, independent effort. This allows you to create an event that fits your personality, community and capacity, unique to fit your own ideas, while raising funds and awareness for this important movement. When you are promoting or speaking about your event, then, you can title it “EVENT, benefitting NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness” to let people know that we support your event and that your event supports us.

Can I use NAMI’s logo and information?

NAMI provides a logo and specifications special to DIY events to ensure that you have the right graphics to brand your event. This logo is the only logo authorized for your independent use for your DIY event. You may not use NAMI’s official logo to promote your own event.

Will NAMI pay for any part of our event?

No, NAMI does not reimburse for any expenses related to your DIY event. NAMI is not financially responsible for any staging or other event expenses.

When do funds from a DIY event need to be given to NAMI?

Please send the proceeds from your event to NAMI within 30 days of your event. You can mail them to:

Are donations tax deductible?

Yes, funds donated to NAMI will be credited to the donor. NAMI is a 501(c)3 organization and therefore is classified as a tax deductible organization. You should be careful when securing your donations to make sure that the credit for that donation is correctly identified. For example, a payment will be deductible for income tax purposes to the individual or organization from whom the check is received. If donations are made to an independent organization that then pays NAMI, then only the independent organization qualifies as the donor. Also, note that when checks are made to NAMI, they cannot be utilized later for any DIY event expenses and NAMI will not pay back funds for this purpose.

In what form should I present NAMI with the funds raised?

All checks should be made out to NAMI. We can also take donations by credit card over the phone. To use a credit card please call 703-516-7970.

Will NAMI help publicize my event?

NAMI will not directly publicize DIY events but we do provide graphics, tools and resources to help you get the word out about your event in your own way.
