Depression and Diabetes

January 1, 2008

The Chicago Tribune (free, one-time registration required) reports that a study by researchers at Northwestern University indicates a relationship between chronic depression and adult-onset diabetes. Using data collected over a ten-year period, the team observed that adults age 65 and older who reported high depressive symptoms were 50 percent more likely to develop diabetes than those who did not.
