Legislation to Improve Mental Health Care in America
Two comprehensive bills have been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives to improve mental health care in America.
The Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act (HR 3717), introduced by Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Pa), has 90 co-sponsors. More information about this bill, including a list of co-sponsors, can be found here.
The Strengthening Mental Health in our Communities Act of 2014 (HR 4574), tintroduced by Rep. Ron Barber (D-Ariz.), has 51 co-sponsors. More information about this bill, including a list of co-sponsors, can be found here.
There are many similarities between these two bills but also some differences that reflect different visions of what is need to improve the mental health system.
