Celebrating Recovery Awareness with an Increasingly Diverse Nation
Recovery for All
As NAMI moves forward to becoming a diverse organization at all levels, we can take advantage of existing resources and celebrations to help us successfully engage diverse communities. One of these celebrations takes place the entire month of July, which the House of Representatives proclaimed as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month in 2008.
The Multicultural Action Center is already gearing up for National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month 2010 and has made resources available to support awareness and outreach efforts across the country. On the NAMI website you can find:
Mental health advocates and NAMI partners around the country can raise awareness about mental illness, treatment and recovery in diverse communities during this month by hosting special events and partnering with local multicultural businesses and organizations. Many who have experience with Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) can draw from this experience for good ideas of the types of activities and events to host to raise mental health awareness.
Stay tuned and visit the NAMI website for updates.
