Depression and Latinas
In any given year, 10-14 million people experience a clinical depression; women ages 18-45 account for the largest proportion of this group. Latinas may be at an increased risk: They experience depression at roughly twice the rate of Latinos and they are more likely to experience depression than Caucasian or African American women.
According to a report by the Centers for Disease Control, Latina teenagers in the United States are the group most likely to seriously consider suicide, which is associated with depression. (continue)
