National Board of Directors

David Lushbaugh  David J. Lushbaugh

Dave serves on NAMI Board of Directors

Dave believes "Advocacy work turns the grief and frustration of mental illness into hope and constructive action." As a priority, he advocates for the importance of the appropriate use of information technology to coordinate and connect the delivery of necessary treatment and services to improve recovery outcomes, while reducing stigma associated with mental illness.

Dave is a member of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Metro Atlanta Board of Directors, has served on the Emory University Community Psychiatric Services Fellowship Board, and is published in the Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law.

As a past president of NAMI Georgia, Dave was a principal in bringing Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) to Georgia statewide. To date, more than 4,000 officers have been trained to interface in mental illness crisis events. Dave has served as a reserve police officer and Fulton County (Atlanta) made him an honorary lieutenant. Dave is certified by the state of Georgia as a first responder in pre-hospital care and has volunteered at homeless shelters, Veterans facilities, and hospital emergency rooms.

Dave was the recipient of the Georgia-Pacific Employee Volunteer National Community Services Impact Award during his role as manager of training support services at the Georgia-Pacific Corporation in Atlanta. He chaired the most successful fall inaugural NAMIWalk in 2005, received the Outstanding NAMI Georgia member award in 2006 and was inducted into the NAMI Georgia Hall of Fame in 2009.
