June 29, 2006 Photos: Taking it to the Hill

At Thursday morning’s Legislative Plenary, Betsy Greer presents the Richard T. Greer Advocacy Award to Joe and JoAnn Zwack of Roseville, MN. The Zwacks have been tireless advocates for people with mental illness who are involved in the criminal justice system.

Senator Pete Dominici of NewMexico, a long-time friend of NAMI, offers words of inspiration to convention-goers prior to their advocacy visits to Capitol Hill.

Stella March, NAMI’s StigmaBuster-in-Chief, chats with fellow attendees.

Mary Gibson, chair of NAMI’s Veterans' Council, presents an award on Capitol Hill to Congressman Steve Buyer of Indiana in recognition of his achievement in improving the lives of veterans living with mental illness.

Attendee Joel Weir of Columbia, SC, creates a "buzz" with his advocacy t-shirts. The message: “Those who feel too small to be of any consequence have obviously never gone to bed with a mosquito in the room. Be the mosquito!”

Tilda Virgilio displays her collages at the Convention Art Show
