Don't Miss It Again: Discovery Channel's
Documentary on Schizophrenia

For Immediate Release, February 23, 2001
Contact: Anne-Marie Chace

Arlington, VA-For those who missed it the first time, NAMI encourages all American families to tune in to the Discovery Channel's remarkable documentary on schizophrenia, one of the world's most misunderstood illnesses.

On March 8, 2001 at 8:00 p.m. (EST), the Discovery Channel will present "Schizophrenia: Stolen Minds, Stolen Lives," focusing on the personal cost of schizophrenia and the hope for recovery. It tells the stories of several families, including Nobel Prize winning mathematician John F. Nash, Jr. and his son, Johnny, who both have the brain disorder. It also presents the latest research on schizophrenia and profiles top scientists, such as long-time NAMI member Nancy Andreasen, M.D., Ph.D., who recently received the National Medal of Science for her research on mental illness.

The program will air again that night at 12:00 a.m. (EST). Viewers are advised to check local listings for confirmation.

Produced by independent film producer Leslie Wiener, whose own brother had schizophrenia, "Stolen Minds, Stolen Lives" is a powerful educational tool that will dispel the many myths that surround schizophrenia and will give hope to the millions of Americans personally affected by the condition.

Video copies also will be available after March 8th through the Discovery Channel, for purchase at $19.95 plus shipping, by calling 1-800-475-6636 or by ordering online at Orders cannot be placed until after that date.
