NAMI Family-to-Family Update
Programming Outside the NAMI Box
NAMI Delaware and AstraZeneca have been community neighbors for many years with unwavering AstraZeneca support of NAMI events. A small group comprised of NAMI Delaware leaders and the chair of the AstraZeneca Special Needs Employee Network Group worked together to launch a pilot project to bring the Family-to-Family Education Program to AstraZeneca employees.
Two seasoned Family-to-Family teachers, Julius Meisel and his wife, Nancy Devine, taught the inaugural class and graduated nine family members. Julius is also NAMI Delaware board president, and Nancy is a scientist with AstraZeneca who aided in facilitating in-house logistics and clearances to get the class off the ground. With the successful completion of the first class, two AstraZeneca family member class graduates want to become Family-to-Family teachers and then teach a future class at AstraZeneca.
NAMI Delaware will pursue other companies to replicate this partnership to build visibility about NAMI and awareness of the free benefit they provide to educate employees with relatives living with a serious mental illness. For further information about this project, contact Pat McDowell, NAMI Delaware program director, firstname.lastname@example.org.
