Special Screening: When Medicine Got It Wrong
A PBS documentary by Katie Cadigan and Laura Murray
Kick-off NAMI’s 30th anniversary convention with a special screening of this PBS documentary that will air in the fall, portraying NAMI’s dramatic origins as a grassroots movement and founding as a national organization. In the 1970s, families rebelled against medical theories that blamed schizophrenia on bad parenting and changed forever how we think about mental illness. Their activism continues today—as NAMI fights for scientific research, mental health care and against stigma. Besides honoring NAMI’s founders, the screening will help launch NAMI’s campaign as PBS’s national outreach partner in publicizing the fall broadcast. Celebrate NAMI’s heritage and help make NAMI a household name.
